Vivo X500 Series Rumors: Square 68MP Selfie Camera and 200MP Telephoto Detailed

The smartphone rumor mill is accelerating as new leaks shed light on Vivo’s highly anticipated X500 Ultra and its companion device, the X500s. Prominent industry insider Digital Chat Station has provided a fresh look at the camera architecture for the upcoming flagship duo, pointing to a monstrous 200-megapixel rear sensor for the Ultra and an unconventional front-facing camera design for the S-series model.
According to the latest intelligence, the Vivo X500 Ultra will be powered by the formidable Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. On the imaging front, the device is tipped to feature a standard 50-megapixel selfie camera. However, the rear module is where the flagship truly flexes its muscles, boasting a triple-camera array consisting of two 50-megapixel sensors and a massive 200-megapixel lens. While the exact focal lengths remain unconfirmed, industry consensus suggests the 200-megapixel shooter will serve as a high-performance periscope telephoto lens, continuing the legacy of the current X300 Ultra.
The leaks also detail a “next-next-generation S model,” which analysts strongly believe to be the Vivo X500s rather than a numbered S70 or S80 handset. This device is reportedly testing a highly unusual square-shaped front camera utilizing a 68-megapixel IMX05A sensor. If implemented, this square design choice would mark a significant departure from the standard circular punch-hole cutouts that currently dominate the mobile market.
Beyond the optics, recent reports regarding engineering samples indicate the X500s will sport a 6.85-inch 2K+ flat display with a blistering 144Hz refresh rate and symmetrical bezels. Given that these display specifications align perfectly with the rumors surrounding the Ultra model, it appears both devices are being developed on a unified hardware platform. To support this demanding hardware, earlier tips linked the X500 Ultra to an enormous battery capacity ranging between 7,000 and 8,000mAh.
Both the Vivo X500 Ultra and the X500s are projected to make their official debut in China during the March or April 2027 launch window. If this timeline holds, Vivo will continue its successful strategy of pairing its ultimate camera flagship with a premium S-series sibling, setting the stage for a major shakeup in the mobile photography landscape next spring.
