Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Leaks Reveal a 200MP Periscope Lens and Professional External Camera Accessory

Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max

Huawei is preparing to blur the line between smartphones and professional DSLRs with its upcoming Mate 90 Pro Max. According to fresh leaks from prominent industry insider DigitalChatStation, the 2026 flagship will feature a monstrous 200MP periscope camera and a dedicated external lens accessory designed to push mobile optical zoom to its absolute limits.

Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max: Variable Apertures and RYYB Sensors

At the heart of the Mate 90 Pro Max’s imaging system is a custom 50MP 1/1.28-inch RYYB primary sensor. Outfitted with advanced anti-glare technology and Huawei’s signature variable aperture mechanics, this main shooter is built to handle highly complex lighting environments.

Industry supply chain reports suggest this sensor—alongside the periscope and multispectral modules—will be manufactured by SmartSens, which currently serves as one of Huawei’s primary imaging partners.

Backing up the main camera is a third-generation multispectral color reproduction sensor. Boasting an impressive dynamic range of 18EV, this secondary module is engineered to deliver highly accurate, vibrant, and natural color science, addressing the processing artifacts that often plague high-contrast smartphone photography.

A 200MP Periscope and a Surprise Accessory

The most significant revelation in the latest leak surrounds the phone’s zoom capabilities. The Mate 90 Pro Max is slated to include an ultra-large 200MP single-sensor periscope lens. On paper, a periscope camera of this size and resolution packs enough raw imaging power to render additional zoom hardware redundant.

Despite this, Huawei is reportedly developing a “super-powerful” external lens accessory. Likely reserved for a premium, top-tier Collector’s Edition of the device, this attachable teleconverter will mount directly over the smartphone’s built-in camera array. By physically altering the focal length and optical reach, the accessory allows users to capture extreme long-range subjects without relying on quality-degrading digital crops.

While DigitalChatStation did not share exact focal lengths for the external glass, the combination of a 200MP native periscope and an optical teleconverter suggests Huawei is targeting professional wildlife and sports photography enthusiasts.

The latest wave of leaks also teases impending details for the standard Mate 90 lineup, as well as the highly anticipated Mate X8 dual-fold foldable, indicating a massive hardware push for Huawei in the coming months.
