Galaxy S27 Ultra Leaked Specs: M16 OLED Displays & COE Technology

Samsung is preparing a sweeping refresh of its display technology across the entire Galaxy S27 flagship family, according to an industry report from South Korea’s ETNews. Expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027, the new smartphone lineup will see display upgrades across all models, with the most significant hardware leaps reserved for the higher-end variants.

M16 OLED Panels Tipped for Pro and Ultra Models

The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are slated to become Samsung’s first smartphones to feature the new M16 OLED material set. The advanced panel material has already been adopted by devices like Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro series and the iQOO 16, making its inclusion in Samsung’s top-tier flagships a logical step.

Compared to previous generations, the M16 material delivers several key improvements:

• Higher Brightness and Efficiency: The underlying panel technology has demonstrated efficiency gains of up to 30% alongside higher peak brightness.

• Enhanced Purity and Lifespan: Better overall color accuracy and improved long-term panel durability.

To further distinguish the premium models, Samsung is reportedly implementing Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology. By eliminating the traditional polarizing layer, COE boosts both screen brightness and overall energy efficiency. Samsung also plans to introduce new Privacy Display features exclusively on the Pro and Ultra models.

Base and Plus Models Upgrade to M14 Display Material

The standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus are also receiving attention. Moving away from the M13 material set used in recent years, both models will transition to updated M14 panels—marking the first material set upgrade for Samsung’s baseline flagships in quite some time.

Samsung Display will manufacture the screens for all four devices in the family. Screen sizes are reported to range from roughly 6.27 inches on the standard Galaxy S27 up to 6.89 inches on the Galaxy S27 Ultra, with the Plus and Pro variants positioned in between.
