Xiaomi Enters the Wide Foldable Market: Everything You Need to Know About the 18 Fold
Xiaomi has officially expanded its foldable portfolio with the announcement of the Xiaomi 18 Fold, the company’s first foray into the “wide” or passport-style foldable market. Unveiled during a major launch event in China, the new device is positioned as a direct challenger to industry heavyweights like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Huawei Pura X Max, while pre-empting Apple’s heavily rumored iPhone Ultra.
Packed with proprietary silicon, a massive battery, and a high-resolution camera array, the Xiaomi 18 Fold represents a significant technological leap for the brand.
A New Form Factor with Striking Displays
Moving away from the taller, narrower aspect ratios of its previous folding phones, Xiaomi has adopted an asymmetrical wide design for the 18 Fold. The exterior features a 5.38-inch OLED cover display with extremely thin bezels and a centered hole-punch camera.
Opening the device reveals a sprawling 7.58-inch AMOLED inner display protected by Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG). Designed for premium media consumption and multitasking, this main panel boasts an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and an eye-watering peak brightness of 4,000 nits.
On the rear, Xiaomi has opted for a completely flat back panel disrupted only by a horizontal camera bar. This centered, protruding module not only houses the triple-lens system but is strategically placed to prevent the phone from wobbling when laid on a flat surface.
Powered by Custom Silicon: The XRING O3
In a major strategic shift, Xiaomi is bypassing off-the-shelf processors in favor of its brand-new, in-house XRING O3 chipset.
To complement the custom silicon, Xiaomi offers robust memory configurations. The device utilizes ultra-fast UFS 4.1 flash storage across the board. The 12GB RAM base model utilizes LPDDR5X, while the maxed-out 16GB RAM tier with 1TB of storage makes the jump to the next-generation LPDDR6 standard.
Despite its incredibly slim profile—measuring just 5.02mm thick when unfolded—Xiaomi managed to pack a massive 6,000mAh battery inside the chassis. The phone supports 67W wired fast charging, 50W PPS wired charging, and 50W wireless charging.
A 200-Megapixel Photographic Arsenal
Foldables often compromise on camera hardware to save space, but Xiaomi has equipped the 18 Fold with a true flagship array. The horizontal camera bar is headlined by a massive 200-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS).
It is joined by a highly capable 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering 3.5x true optical zoom and 7x “optical-quality” zoom, also supported by OIS. A 50-megapixel ultrawide camera completes the rear trio. For video calls and selfies, both the cover screen and the inner display are equipped with dedicated 16-megapixel lenses.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold runs on HyperOS 4—presumably based on Android 17—and features cutting-edge connectivity, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.
At launch, the device will be available in four distinct finishes: Black, Ceramic Special Edition, Warm Gold, and Nishino Red (global naming conventions may vary). Pricing in China begins at CNY 12,999 (approximately $1,937) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed global availability, though international pricing typically carries a premium.
