Vivo Announces OriginOS 7 Release Date: Inside the New ‘Liquid Glass’ UI

Vivo has officially confirmed the launch date for its highly anticipated OriginOS 7. The Android 17-based operating system will be unveiled on September 16 at the Vivo Developer Conference in China, where the company plans to outline its global rollout strategy and detail a sweeping set of visual and performance upgrades.

Sharing the stage will be BlueOS 4, Vivo’s latest operating system tailored for smart wearables, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and smart home hardware, signaling a broader ecosystem push by the tech giant.

A Leap into ‘Light and Shadow’ Aesthetics

Ahead of the official debut, Vivo has released a series of promotional teasers that highlight a dramatic design overhaul. The new interface leans heavily into a translucent material design system—frequently referred to as a “liquid glass” UI.

Dubbed “light and shadow aesthetics” by Vivo’s design team, this approach utilizes see-through glass effects that dynamically blend with the user’s background wallpaper. This not only creates a unique, highly immersive visual experience but also maximizes available screen real estate for applications.

To ensure this transparency doesn’t compromise usability, Vivo is introducing a pixel-level “see-through color” technology. This feature automatically adjusts specific areas of the screen in real time, ensuring that text remains perfectly legible even when placed over complex or challenging backgrounds.

Faster Rendering and Fluid Interactions

Beyond static aesthetics, OriginOS 7 is heavily focused on motion and fluidity. The software introduces a new liquid animation system powered by a rebuilt Blue River rendering engine. Now centered around Virtual GPU 4.0, the new OS promises a 14% faster rendering speed compared to its predecessor, OriginOS 6.

This performance boost allows for highly responsive, physics-based user interactions. The UI now feels more alive, generating localized ripple effects whenever a button is pressed. Additionally, dragging elements across the screen dynamically alters light and shadow along the interaction path, simulating physical depth.

Next-Level Personalization

Vivo is also expanding how users can customize their devices, particularly on the lock screen. OriginOS 7 introduces “Liquid Themes,” an interactive feature that animates the lock screen wallpaper in response to tilting or shaking the phone. Another addition, the “Flash Card Theme,” allows users to transform their favorite photos, characters, or locations into stylized lock screen cards.

For those who love digital expression, a new system-wide sticker library is making its debut. Users can now pin stickers directly onto their desktop, within photo albums, over wallpapers, or onto the Always-On Display (AOD). The system even includes a tool to generate custom stickers straight from the user’s photo gallery, rounding out a software update heavily focused on fluid design and playful personalization.
