OnePlus 16 Leak Reveals Ultra-Slim Bezels and System-Wide 165Hz Display

OnePlus appears to be placing display quality and gaming performance at the centre of its next flagship smartphone strategy. Early leaks suggest that the OnePlus 16 could feature the slimmest bezels of any OnePlus flagship to date, alongside a new-generation OLED panel capable of running at up to 165Hz across the entire interface.

The device is still months away from an official announcement, but the combination of recent leaks and OnePlus’s own gaming-focused teasers points to a phone designed to deliver a particularly immersive front-facing experience.

Narrow bezels could define the design

According to Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 16 will feature extremely narrow display borders on all four sides. The leaker suggests that the device will set a new benchmark within OnePlus’s flagship lineup for bezel reduction.

The phone is also said to use a custom display panel designed to provide sharper visuals and improved clarity. If accurate, the OnePlus 16 could stand out in a flagship market where most premium devices already offer excellent screens, but many still retain visibly thicker borders around the display.

Slim bezels alone do not transform the way a phone works, but they can make a device feel more modern, more premium and more immersive. This is especially relevant for gaming, video playback and everyday content consumption, where a larger usable screen area can make a meaningful difference.

New Oriental Screen may offer system-wide 165Hz

Previous leaks have claimed that the OnePlus 16 will be the first device to use a new generation of the company’s Oriental Screen technology.

The display is reportedly capable of supporting a 165Hz refresh rate across the full system, rather than restricting the highest refresh mode to selected games. That would allow scrolling, animations, transitions and supported applications to feel smoother throughout the interface.

A 165Hz panel would go beyond the 120Hz screens commonly used in flagship phones and even exceed the 144Hz refresh rates offered by several gaming-focused models. The practical difference between 120Hz and 165Hz may not be dramatic for every user, but fast-scrolling content, touch-sensitive games and high-frame-rate animations could feel more responsive.

The OnePlus 16 is also expected to launch with ColorOS 17, which may include redesigned system animations tuned for the higher refresh rate.

OnePlus is targeting serious mobile gaming

OnePlus has already publicly signalled that the next flagship will include enhanced gaming technology. During the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards on July 30, OnePlus China President Li Jie discussed collaborative gaming advancements and confirmed that three exclusive OnePlus gaming features would receive major upgrades before debuting on the OnePlus 16.

Promotional materials and shared images point to 165Hz display support, with certain game tests reportedly reaching even higher refresh levels. The company is said to be enabling this through an overclocked display controller, dedicated co-processing hardware, game-focused kernel tuning and a triple-core e-sports processor configuration.

The aim is straightforward: lower input latency, smoother gameplay and more stable frame rates during demanding sessions. However, the effectiveness of these systems will depend heavily on game compatibility, heat management and power consumption.

A 165Hz display can look impressive in a specification list, but it will only matter if games can consistently deliver enough frames to take advantage of it.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro expected

The OnePlus 16 is expected to use Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor. Although the chipset has not yet been officially announced, leaks suggest it may be Qualcomm’s most advanced mobile platform, potentially offering major improvements in CPU, GPU and AI performance.

The combination of a high-refresh-rate display, gaming-specific hardware and a next-generation flagship processor could position the OnePlus 16 as one of the more performance-focused Android phones of its generation.

The company may be trying to create a clear distinction between itself and camera-first flagship competitors. Rather than chasing the most elaborate camera hardware, OnePlus appears likely to focus on speed, screen quality and a consistently fluid experience.

Launch could happen in October

OnePlus has not announced the OnePlus 16 or provided an official release schedule. Some reports indicate that the device could launch in China in October, but this remains unconfirmed.

Until OnePlus reveals the complete specifications, important details remain unknown. These include the display resolution, panel brightness, battery capacity, charging speed, cameras, software support policy and global availability.

Still, the available evidence suggests that OnePlus is preparing a flagship built around display immersion and sustained performance. If the claimed ultra-thin bezels, system-wide 165Hz refresh rate and upgraded gaming technologies make it into the final product, the OnePlus 16 could be one of the most compelling Android options for users who value speed and screen quality above everything else.
