WhatsApp Introduces Private Message Summarization Using Meta AI
|WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new feature that allows users to summarize missed messages in private chats, group conversations, and channels. At the core of this feature is Private Processing, which ensures that neither WhatsApp nor its parent company Meta can access or view users’ message content or summarization requests.
Catch Up Faster With Meta AI Summaries
As reported by WABetaInfo, a trusted source for WhatsApp updates, the platform is currently testing this summarization feature with beta users. It is available through the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.15.12, which can be downloaded from the Play Store.
When a user receives a significant number of messages in a chat, a “Summarize with Meta AI” button will appear. Tapping this button will generate a brief summary of the conversation, allowing users to quickly understand the key points without scrolling through every message.
This tool is designed to function across all types of chats—including one-on-one conversations, group chats, and channels—making it especially useful for users who are part of many active groups or receive a high volume of messages.
However, it’s important to note that the feature does not work in chats where Advanced Chat Privacy is enabled. This privacy mode blocks functionalities like exporting chats or automatic media downloads, providing an extra layer of security.
Secure and Private by Design
When a user requests a summary, WhatsApp generates a private and secure request. Thanks to its Private Processing infrastructure, the entire process occurs in a secure environment, without storing or retaining the original message content.
Currently, the summarization feature is in limited beta testing and available only to select users. A wider public release is expected in the near future as WhatsApp continues to refine the feature.
