Redmi Turbo 5 Launched: First Look at the Dimensity 8500-Ultra Powerhouse

Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest performance-oriented handset in China, the Redmi Turbo 5 Standard Edition, and it appears to be completely rewriting the rules of the affordable flagship market. By combining an unprecedented battery capacity with unreleased silicon, Xiaomi is signaling a major shift in what consumers can expect from the sub-$300 price bracket.
For international observers, this launch is particularly significant. Historical release patterns strongly suggest that this device will eventually reach global markets rebranded as the POCO X8 Pro.
The Debut of the Dimensity 8500-Ultra At the heart of the Redmi Turbo 5 lies the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra. This 4nm chipset is designed to bridge the gap between premium mid-range efficiency and true flagship power. Xiaomi has paired the new silicon with its proprietary “Rampage Engine,” a software layer that dynamically tunes CPU, GPU, and memory frequencies to sustain high frame rates during gaming.
To mitigate the heat generated by this performance, the device borrows thermal technology from Xiaomi’s top-tier phones, utilizing a “3D ice-sealed circulating cold pump.” This advanced cooling system is engineered to handle intensive multitasking and prolonged gaming sessions without thermal throttling.
An Engineering Marvel: 7560mAh Battery The headline feature, however, is the power cell. Xiaomi has managed to fit a staggering 7560mAh battery into a relatively compact 6.59-inch chassis. This capacity is virtually unheard of in mainstream smartphones, which typically top out around 5500mAh to 6000mAh.
The device supports 100W wired fast charging, ensuring that even this massive cell fills up quickly. Perhaps more surprisingly, it offers 27W wired reverse charging, effectively transforming the phone into a high-speed power bank capable of charging other phones or accessories in a pinch.
Note for global buyers: While the Chinese model boasts this massive capacity, international users waiting for the POCO X8 Pro should manage expectations. Global variants often launch with slightly smaller batteries due to differing safety certifications and shipping logistics in various regions.
Display and Durability The front of the device is dominated by a “Super Sunlight Screen” utilizing M10 luminescent material. It promises a peak brightness of 3500 nits, ensuring perfect legibility even under direct sunlight, and incorporates Xiaomi’s “Green Mountain” eye protection technology to reduce strain.
Despite the focus on internals, the build quality has not been compromised. The phone features a metal frame and a glass back, available in Shadow Black, Light Sea Green, and Auspicious Cloud White. Furthermore, it carries an impressive IP69K rating, certifying it against high-pressure water jets and dust ingress—a durability standard rarely seen outside of ruggedized phones.
Pricing and Availability The Redmi Turbo 5 is currently exclusive to China. However, the domestic pricing provides a tantalizing glimpse of the potential value proposition for the future POCO X8 Pro.

If Xiaomi can maintain similar pricing when the device goes global, the mid-range market is about to face stiff competition.
