HMD Vibe 2 Specs Leaked: Android 15 and 5,000mAh Battery for the Budget Market

HMD appears to be doubling down on the entry-level market with the development of the HMD Vibe 2. A fresh leak circulating on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has shed light on the specifications of the unannounced device, painting a picture of a smartphone that offers practical upgrades in some areas while cutting corners in others.
The leak, shared by tipster HMD_MEME’S, suggests that the manufacturer is prioritizing battery life and software currency over raw performance for this iteration.
HMD Vibe 2 Display and Design: A Step Backward?
According to the leaked data, the Vibe 2 will feature an expansive 6.75-inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution. A welcome addition for this price bracket is the 90Hz refresh rate, ensuring smoother scrolling and UI navigation compared to standard 60Hz screens.
However, the render accompanying the leak reveals a potentially controversial design choice. The device appears to utilize a “waterdrop” notch for the front camera. This would represent a regression from the original HMD Vibe, launched in June 2024, which featured a more modern hole-punch cutout. Conversely, the rear camera module seems to have been refined for a cleaner, more contemporary look.
Under the Hood: The Unisoc Switch
Perhaps the most significant change lies in the silicon. While the original Vibe utilized a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor, the Vibe 2 is reportedly pivoting to a Unisoc T7200 chipset.
This 4G processor will be paired with a modest 4GB of RAM. This configuration places the device firmly in the entry-level category, capable of handling social media, web browsing, and messaging, but likely to struggle with heavy multitasking or gaming. On the bright side, storage options appear generous, with 128GB and 256GB variants tipped, alongside the increasingly rare microSD card slot for expansion.
HMD Vibe 2 Camera and Battery Upgrades
HMD seems to be addressing one of the biggest complaints of the original model: battery capacity. The Vibe 2 is expected to house a 5,000mAh battery, a significant jump from the 4,000mAh cell found in its predecessor. However, patience will be required at the plug, as charging speeds are reportedly limited to a sluggish 10W wired charging.
In the imaging department, the main camera is getting a massive resolution bump on paper, moving from 13MP to a 50MP primary sensor. This is paired with a utilitarian 0.8MP secondary sensor (likely for depth data). Selfie duties will reportedly be handled by a modest 2MP or 5MP sensor.
Software Edge
The device’s strongest selling point may be its software. The leak indicates the phone will ship with Android 15 out of the box. For a budget device, launching on the latest operating system offers a significant advantage in terms of security and feature longevity compared to rivals often launching on older Android versions.
While pricing and specific launch dates remain unknown, the HMD Vibe 2 is shaping up to be a pragmatic, no-frills option for users who value battery life and up-to-date software over high-end performance.
