Honor 500 Pro Confirmed with Advanced 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor

Honor 500 Pro

Honor is continuing to reveal the core specifications of its upcoming 500 Pro smartphone. Ahead of the official debut scheduled for November 24, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed the implementation of a technology previously reserved primarily for premium devices: an advanced 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

While Honor has previously utilized similar technology in its flagship Magic 8 series, the Honor 500 Pro is set to bring an improved version of this sensor to the “sub-flagship” segment. This move promises superior speed and accuracy compared to standard optical readers.

Why Ultrasonic Security is Superior

Unlike optical sensors that create a 2D image of the finger using light, the 3D ultrasonic sensor uses sound waves to map every pore, ridge, and fine line on the user’s skin. The result is a highly detailed, three-dimensional “topographical” map of the print, making the fingerprint nearly impossible to spoof and providing a significantly higher level of security.

The new generation sensor boasts a remarkable increase in speed. While earlier versions required between 0.2 and 0.3 seconds for recognition and unlock, Honor claims the sensor in the 500 Pro can complete the process in just 0.1 seconds.

Beyond speed, the ultrasonic technology addresses one of the most common user frustrations: unlocking with wet or dirty hands, a challenge that ultrasonic waves overcome with high accuracy.

Industrial-Grade Durability with IP69K

In tandem with the advanced biometrics, Honor has placed a strong emphasis on durability. The device arrives with an impressive combination of water and dust resistance ratings: IP68, IP69, and IP69K.

This “triple-layer” protection ensures that the device can handle not only immersion in water (IP68) but also, crucially, the IP69K standard guarantees resistance against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets and steam.

The combination of industrial-grade waterproofing and a sensor that works under moisture makes the Honor 500 Pro an exceptionally practical device for all environments, signaling the brand’s intent to redefine expectations in the upper mid-range market.
