Nubia Z80 Ultra debuts with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 7,200 mAh battery, and 144 Hz AMOLED

Nubia has unveiled its latest flagship, the Nubia Z80 Ultra, bringing meaningful upgrades over its predecessor. Headlining the list are Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a reworked camera system, and a larger 7,200 mAh Si/C battery that supports 90 W wired and 80 W wireless charging. The device debuted in China earlier today, and Nubia confirmed a global launch for November 6.

Display and selfie tech

The Z80 Ultra features a 6.85-inch BOE X10 AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution (1,216 × 2,688) and a 144 Hz refresh rate. As before, ZTE’s under-display camera returns—now a 16 MP unit—leaving the screen free of cutouts for a truly uninterrupted canvas.

Triple-camera system with a 35 mm main

Nubia brings back the 35 mm-equivalent main camera, this time built around a custom 1/1.3-inch OmniVision 990 sensor. It’s paired with:

• 64 MP periscope (1/2″ sensor) offering 3× optical zoom

• 18 mm-equivalent ultrawide using a 1/1.55-inch sensor

New AI photography filters can recommend color profiles on the fly, and advanced users can still fine-tune those profiles manually.

Optional pro-style photography kit

For creators, Nubia offers an optional photography kit priced at CNY 669 (~$95). Styled with a vintage camera aesthetic, it includes a T-mount for external lenses plus a cold shoe to attach microphones, fill lights, and other accessories.

Performance, cooling, and memory

Power comes from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, backed by up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB UFS 4.1 storage. Thermal management mirrors Red Magic’s gaming heritage, combining a composite liquid-metal cooling solution with a 3D Ice Steel VC heat sink for sustained performance under load.

The Nubia Z80 Ultra is available in Light White, Phantom Black, and a Vincent van Gogh–inspired Starry Sky Collector’s Edition.
