Xiaomi 17 family launches with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and big battery plays

Xiaomi 17

Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi 17 trio, led by the first commercial phone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Alongside the new chipset, the lineup pushes battery capacity, display tech, and imaging while keeping compact footprints for the 17 and 17 Pro.

Xiaomi 17: compact flagship with a giant battery

The standard Xiaomi 17 pairs a 6.3-inch M10 LTPO OLED (1220 x 2656, 1–120 Hz) with up to 3,500 nits local peak brightness, ultra-slim 1.18 mm bezels on all four sides, Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass, and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

The headline upgrade is a 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery (up to 16% silicon content) supporting 100 W wired charging, 50 W wireless, and 22.5 W reverse wireless. The chassis uses a flat aluminum frame with IP68 dust and water resistance.

Cameras mirror last year’s formula but with higher-res selfies: a 50 MP ultrawide (17 mm equiv.), a 50 MP main (23 mm equiv.) on a 1/1.31-inch Light Hunter 950 sensor, and a 50 MP 2.6x telephoto (60 mm equiv.), plus a 50 MP front camera.

Cooling is handled by a 4,497 mm² vapor chamber. Memory and storage options include 12/16 GB RAM and 256/512 GB UFS. The phone ships with HyperOS 3 and comes in black, white, blue, and pink.

China pricing: 12/256 GB at CNY 4,499 (~$630), 12/512 GB at CNY 4,799 (~$672), and 16/512 GB at CNY 4,999 (~$700). Pre-orders are open, with deliveries from September 27 in China.

Xiaomi 17 Pro: pocket flagship with a rear display and longer reach

The 17 Pro adds a 2.7-inch secondary screen on the back (904 x 572, up to 120 Hz, up to 3,500 nits, DC dimming). It doubles as a selfie viewfinder and quick control panel for media, timers, notifications, calls, and messages. Xiaomi even offers a retro case that turns the rear screen into a mini game console.

Up front is the same 6.3-inch LTPO M10 panel (1–120 Hz, up to 3,500 nits) with Dragon Crystal Glass. Inside, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is matched with 12/16 GB LPDDR5X and 256/512 GB or 1 TB UFS 4.1 storage, cooled by a 4,637 mm² vapor chamber.

Battery capacity lands at 6,300 mAh thanks to a higher silicon ratio. Charging is 100 W wired (Xiaomi and PPS), 50 W wireless, and 22.5 W reverse, with a Surge G2 management chip targeting at least 80% capacity after 2,000 cycles.

The main camera uses a 1/1.28-inch Light Fusion 950L sensor (1.22 µm) with a Leica Summilux f/1.67 lens and OIS, rated for 16.5 stops of dynamic range. A new floating-prism periscope delivers a 50 MP 5x telephoto with OIS and f/3.0, capable of 20 cm tele-macro shots. The 102° ultrawide is more conservative in coverage, and the selfie camera jumps to 50 MP with an f/2.2 90° lens. A 3D ToF sensor joins the rear array. The phone is IP68-rated.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: bigger canvas, bigger battery, bigger zoom sensor

The Pro Max scales the formula with a 6.9-inch LTPO panel (1–120 Hz, 12-bit color, up to 3,500 nits, DC dimming) and a 2.9-inch rear display (976 x 596). It keeps Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a larger 5,533 mm² vapor chamber, 12/16 GB LPDDR5X, and UFS 4.1 storage starting at 512 GB with a 1 TB option.

Its 7,500 mAh battery supports 100 W wired (HyperCharge and PPS), 50 W wireless, and 22.5 W reverse wired/wireless—practically power-bank territory.

The main and ultrawide match the 17 Pro: 50 MP 1/1.28-inch Light Fusion 950L with Leica Summilux f/1.67 and OIS, plus a 50 MP 102° ultrawide and a 50 MP 90° selfie. The periscope is upgraded: a revised prism layout accommodates a larger 1/2-inch ISOCELL GN8 sensor behind a 5x lens with a wider f/2.6 aperture. Tele-macro focus distance extends to 30 cm. The Pro Max is also IP68 and rated for deeper freshwater immersion (up to 6 m versus 4 m on the smaller Pro).
