Xiaomi 17 Pro Max Teased with “Magic Back Screen” and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Xiaomi has teased the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the first Android smartphones confirmed to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and they come with a headline-grabbing twist: a second display on the back. The devices are due later this month and already look like some of 2026’s most distinctive flagships.
In a short teaser video, Xiaomi showcases what it calls the “Magic Back Screen.” The rear panel appears to support multiple clock styles, act as a viewfinder for selfies taken with the main cameras, surface app information, and display dynamic designs. The clip hints at broader functionality, suggesting Xiaomi may reveal additional tricks at launch.
This isn’t Xiaomi’s first dance with a rear display. The Mi 11 Ultra in 2021 featured a 1.1-inch AMOLED panel on the back, but it was comparatively limited. The 17 Pro series looks to be a far more ambitious reinterpretation—bigger canvas, deeper integration, and more everyday utility.
Photography remains a focal point for the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. A prominent Leica badge below the camera array confirms the continuation of Xiaomi’s imaging partnership, a collaboration that has shaped color science and tuning on recent models.
With cutting-edge silicon, a bold dual-screen design, and renewed Leica co-branding, the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are positioned to push Xiaomi’s premium strategy forward when they debut later this month.
