OxygenOS 16: Features, Rollout Timeline, and Eligible OnePlus Devices

OxygenOS 16

OxygenOS 16, based on Android 16, is shaping up to be one of the biggest software upgrades for OnePlus devices, bringing a wide range of enhancements, new features, and visual changes across the system. While Google shipped Android 16 unusually early this year — in June — and Pixel devices already run the stable build, other brands have been slower to catch up.

OnePlus was among the first to release Android 16 betas, skipping the initial beta and launching the second for the OnePlus 13 in April, followed by the third in May. Since then, the company has been quiet on when to expect the stable OxygenOS 16 rollout. However, signs suggest the wait may be nearly over: closed beta testing is already underway for several models, including the OnePlus 13 and 13s. Typically, this phase is followed by an open beta, and then the stable release.

Industry sources suggest that the stable OxygenOS 16 rollout will begin in October. The OnePlus 13 series will be the first to receive the update, followed by older flagships and eventually mid-range and budget devices.

OxygenOS 16

OnePlus has not detailed every feature of OxygenOS 16, but leaks and earlier beta builds give a good idea of what to expect. Google’s Android 16 contributions include a redesigned Quick Settings menu, new customization tools, grouped notifications, and additional security and privacy upgrades. The Live Updates feature is expected to be paired with OnePlus’s Live Alerts for added usefulness.

According to Smartprix, OxygenOS 16 will also introduce long-awaited lock screen widgets, including weather, calendar, and third-party app widgets. The lock screen is also gaining three new clock styles, one of which is a full-width stretched clock inspired by iOS. Quick Settings will get more flexible layouts, including drag-and-drop toggles in a split view and a new scrollable layout for faster access. Under-the-hood optimizations are also expected, aiming for smoother performance and greater responsiveness.

If you’re preparing for the update, it’s worth backing up your device in advance and reviewing OnePlus’s eventual changelog once the rollout begins. For adventurous users, an open beta is likely to appear before the stable version, though betas often come with bugs.
