iPhone 17 Battery Leak: Pro Max Tops 5,000mAh as Air Goes Lean
|Days ahead of Apple’s iPhone 17 reveal, a fresh leak from China’s 3C certification database—surfaced by tipster ShrimpApplePro on X—outlines the iPhone 17 battery capacities across the lineup. The listings have not been independently verified, but they offer an early look at how Apple may have balanced endurance against design constraints for its 2025 phones.
According to the filings, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max each appear in two variants: one with a physical SIM tray and one eSIM-only, a split that can affect internal space and, by extension, battery size. Only one entry was spotted for the standard iPhone 17, leaving its SIM configuration unclear.
iPhone 17 Battery: Quoted capacities from the 3C entries:
-
iPhone 17 Air: 3,036mAh (SIM tray) or 3,149mAh (eSIM-only)
-
iPhone 17: 3,692mAh
-
iPhone 17 Pro: 3,988mAh (SIM tray) or 4,252mAh (eSIM-only)
-
iPhone 17 Pro Max: 4,823mAh (SIM tray) or 5,088mAh (eSIM-only)
If these figures hold, the iPhone 17 Pro Max would become the first iPhone to cross 5,000mAh, roughly an 8% bump over the iPhone 16 Pro Max. At the other end, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air is set to carry the smallest cell in the range—consistent with its design priority. Reports suggest Apple’s new C1 modem should improve efficiency on the Air, and Apple may pair the device with a dedicated battery case to offset the reduced capacity.
As always with certification leaks, specs can shift by launch. We’ll know how Apple ultimately tunes performance, weight, and endurance when the iPhone 17 family is officially unveiled.
