Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Leak: Qualcomm’s Next Flagship Chip Detailed
|Qualcomm’s refreshed naming strategy for its flagship chipsets is already taking another turn. After debuting the Snapdragon 8 Elite late last year, the company is reportedly moving away from a simple numerical follow-up. Instead, the upcoming flagship processor will launch as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, according to the latest leaks.
A new report from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station has shed more light on what to expect from the chip. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is said to feature a dual-prime CPU configuration, with two prime cores clocked at 4.61GHz and six performance cores running at 3.63GHz. On the graphics side, the silicon will integrate an Adreno 840 GPU running at 1.2GHz.
These specifications largely align with earlier rumors and Geekbench sightings, but one new detail stands out: Samsung is preparing a special high-binned version of the chip for its Galaxy S26 series, capable of reaching an impressive 4.74GHz.
The first wave of devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will come from Xiaomi, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, and Realme, all of which are expected to use the standard 4.61GHz version. The faster Samsung-optimized variant will likely roll out later in 2026.
In terms of performance, the leak suggests the new chipset achieves over 4 million points on AnTuTu benchmarks—likely measured on the latest AnTuTu v11, where MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 posts similar results.
Qualcomm is expected to officially unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at its Snapdragon Summit on September 23, just one day after MediaTek introduces its competing flagship. The timing sets the stage for another round of intense rivalry between the two chipmakers as they push mobile silicon to new limits.
