Google AI Mode Launches in India, Kicking Off Global Rollout

Google AI Mode

The Mountain View company has officially expanded its advanced Google AI Mode for search to India, marking the beginning of the feature’s global rollout following its initial debut in the United States back in March. This move signals a major step in Google’s strategy to integrate more powerful, conversational AI directly into its core search experience.

Unlike the “AI Overviews” feature, which provides concise summaries, Google AI Mode is designed for more complex queries that require advanced reasoning. The feature is powered by Google’s state-of-the-art Gemini 2.5 model and employs a sophisticated “fan-out” technique. This process breaks down a user’s complex question into smaller, logical subtopics, runs multiple search queries simultaneously, and then synthesizes the information into a comprehensive, well-structured answer, complete with links to the source material.

Key features of Google AI Mode include:

  • Handling Complex Prompts: The system can process prompts that are two to three times longer than traditional search queries, allowing for more detailed and nuanced questions.
  • Multimodal Search: Users are not limited to text. AI Mode supports voice input and allows users to insert images directly into their search query via Google Lens for visual searches.
  • Seamless Integration: The feature is accessible via a new shortcut on the main Google search bar across the web, Android, and iOS platforms.

This expansion demonstrates Google’s commitment to evolving search beyond simple keyword matching and into a more intuitive, AI-driven Google AI Mode assistant capable of understanding and responding to intricate user needs.
