New Android flagships could come with 24GB RAM to power AI

24 GB RAM

Flagship smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 are likely to come with higher price tags this year. According to a leak from tipster Digital Chat Station, these next-generation processors will deliver double the AI computing power of their predecessors. To fully utilize this enhanced AI performance, manufacturers are reportedly considering premium models with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Just a year ago, most brands stepped back from releasing 24GB RAM phones due to rising memory prices and limited mainstream demand. As a result, 12GB and 16GB RAM became the standard maximums for flagship devices. However, the escalating AI hardware race is now shifting priorities in the industry.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is rumored to deliver up to 100 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI performance, and the Dimensity 9500 is expected to offer similar capabilities. Digital Chat Station claims that the top five smartphone brands are preparing to reintroduce ultra-premium models with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. However, such upgrades will likely drive up smartphone prices.

While the leak doesn’t specify exact pricing, it is almost certain that higher memory and storage configurations will mean more expensive devices.

Early leaked Geekbench 6 results provide an idea of the raw power these chips possess. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 reportedly scores over 4,000 in single-core tests and surpasses 11,000 in multi-core benchmarks. MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 is close behind, with single-core scores above 3,900 and multi-core results also exceeding 11,000.
