HMD granted patent for Nokia 105 (2019) design; Multiple new designs submitted to EUIPO
|Nokia Mobile recently announced the refresh of the reliable feature phone Nokia 105. The Nokia 105 was first announced in 2013 as Nokia’s most affordable feature phone. Since then, Nokia 105 saw refreshes in 2015, 2017 and now in 2019.
European Union Intellectual Property Office granted HMD a design patent for the design of the Nokia 105 (2019). The patent request was submitted on 16th July and the patent was approved and fully published on 5th August under the design number 006631594-0001. The designer is Miika Mahonen, HMD’s Senior Design Specialist operating from Beijing.
HMD Global also submitted a few additional patent requests, but at the moment they aren’t “approved and fully published” so we don’t know which design is HMD seeking to protect.
The most recent one appeared yesterday as 006630265-0001/-0002. In July, HMD submitted 4 designs to protect:
- on 26th July under design number 006634739-0001.
- on 25th July under design number 006633079-0001
- on 24th July under design number 006631073-0001
- on 12th July under design number 006604583-0001
As far as I can tell, one of the teardrop notch devices HMD announced didn’t receive a design patent yet, just like the Nokia X71 and the new 220 4G. There are 8 unknown designs for which HMD seeks protection at EUIPO, so we can safely assume that some of them are the upcoming new devices, maybe the 5.2, 6.2 or 7.2.
