Rumors: Nokia 9.2 likely coming in Autumn 2020 with Snapdragon 865. Nokia 7.2 the most successful phone from 2019 lineup
|In 2019, we saw Nokia Mobile’s first Android cameraphone carrying the PureView brand. The Nokia 9 PureView was announced at MWC2019, though we heard about the existence of the device a year earlier thanks to rumors/leaks from China. The Nokia 9 PureView was allegedly few times delayed because of technical problems, and the device arrived on market with a last generation SoC and was announced as a limited edition, whatever that meant.
The announcement of Nokia 9.2 is likely to be delayed until the autumn due to the replacement of the processor on the Snapdragon 865.#Nokia9 #NokiaMobile #HMD #Nokia2020 pic.twitter.com/DbAFdMFi6v

According to Nokia Anew over at Twitter, the successor of Nokia 9 PureView, that might be called Nokia 9.2, will probably be announced in late 2020. Good news is that the SoC of choice should be the newly announced Snapdragon 865, that comes with 5G support via the required proprietary modem. While we should take all unofficial news with a grain of salt, this info could be useful to lessen expectations for a 5G flagship at MWC2020. We should be excited for next year’s MWC, because the first 5G Nokia phone should be announced there.
In a follow-up to the previous tweet, here’s the full top:
1. Nokia 7.2
2. Nokia 9 PureView
3. Nokia 6.2
4. Nokia 7.1
5. Nokia 2.2
6. Nokia 4.2@NokiaMobile #HMD #NokiaMobile #Nokia— Nokia anew (@nokia_anew) December 30, 2019
The same source also shared some interesting info about the share of each Nokia smartphone in Nokia Mobile’s total 2019 shipments. This is unofficial info, so do take it with a grain of salt. The most popular Nokia smartphone according to volume of devices shipped in 2019 is the Nokia 7.2, with the flagship Nokia 9 PureView at the second place. The published list is a bit surprising, at least to me, because I expected some low end device to have the most shipments because of the price. Nokia Anew explained that the list looks that way because of logistical problems that Nokia Mobile had in 2019.
During 2019, Nokia Mobile opted for a multi-OEM strategy in manufacturing Nokia phones, moving away from FIH Mobile as the exclusive manufacturer. Nokia Mobile now also is responsible for distribution, something the FIH handled previously as well. In 2020 we should expect better performance in the logistical sense (time to market, cost of phones) considering that Nokia Mobile had a year to put all the pieces in place. We will see how fit Nokia Mobile in 2020 will be with the first device that appear at MWC2020. Barcelona should be a good indicator what to expect in 2020.
