CP: Nokia the biggest feature phone vendor in the world (Q4 2017)*UPDATED*

Lately we saw that HMD had a very good last quarter of 2017, where Countepoint Research counted double digit growth compared to Q3 2017. Counterpoint Research told us that HMD grabbed 1% of the smartphone market share in Q4 2017, where 415 million smartphones were shipped, which makes about 4.15 million units. Now, they calculated the precise numbers of units shipped, for feature phones and smartphones and shared it via NokiaPowerUser.

In Q4 2017, HMD Global shipped 4.4 million Nokia smartphones and 20.7 million Nokia feature phones. HMD ranked as the 11th smartphone vendor on the planet, and the No.1 in feature phone shipments globally during Q4 2017. In total, HMD shipped 25.1 million devices, securing the 6th place on the list of biggest phone vendors.

I also corrected the sales and comparison graphs that can be checked down below.

HMD data from IDC and Counterpoint Research, Nokia Lumia from Nokia reports, Apple from Statista
Q1 & Q2 IDC data; Q3 & Q4 Counterpoint Research data

HMD Nokia smartphones sales

2017

  • Q1 – 0.1 million
  • Q2 – 1.4 million
  • Q3 – 2.8 million
  • Q4 – 4.4 million
  • Full year – 8.7 million

In the first year on the market:

  • Nokia Lumia – 9.8 million
  • HMD Nokia – 8.7 million
  • Apple – 5.41 million

All in all, solid growth and a solid 1st year. Gaining the feature phone crown in the first year is a great achievement, and with a promising 2018 lineup, these results should only get better.

Thanks Manpreet for the tip. 🙂
