HMD starts Android Oreo Beta program for #Nokia 8; for 3, 5, 6 coming soon

HMD Global today officially announced the Android 8 Oreo beta program for Nokia devices. If you sign up for the program, you can immediately download the beta version of Android Oreo for the Nokia 8.

Other Nokia smartphones, like Nokia 3, 5 or 6 (probably 7 too) will have their own beta program soon. No precise date was given, but it’s coming for others soon.

Being a beta version of Android Oreo, the software won’t work perfectly on your device, so we don’t recommend installing it if you need your device to work perfectly. Folks that like to experiment with their devices (and taking risks of potential problems), can sign up and download the beta for Nokia 8 here.

I personally don’t like open beta programs, because too often people join the program to try out new stuff, but they are not familiar with all the risks that it includes. Then, if something happens, that objectively is customer’s fault because OEM clearly stated it’s beta, but no one really blames the customer, no matter what we do, right?

So I’m more prone to a limited beta program that would involve a number of users that are active on the community forums. It’s better for customers that more people test the beta OS so HMD can fix all the problems before the release, but knowing how Microsoft’s insider program turned out, I’m a bit sceptical.
