#Android 7.1.1 update available for #Nokia 6

The Chinese version of Nokia 6 is currently getting the Android Nougat 7.1.1 Update, together with the Google Security patch for April 2017. We personally do not have the Chinese version with us, but this info was published on Twitter by two users who own the device.

Next up you can take a look at the Android 7.1.1 changelog created by Android Police. They separate the new features into 2 categories: Pixel-exclusive and overall for Android devices. Nokia devices run Pixel-like Android, so all hardware-independent features exclusive to Pixel should also be available for Nokia devices.

HMD promised fast updates to new versions of Android and regular security updates every month. The Company is keeping its promise and that’s great. 🙂

The global version of Nokia 6, as well as the Nokia 5, will come with Android 7.1.1 preinstalled, while the 3 will come with Android 7.0, but will be updated later, when it hits the market.

If you own a Nokia 6, did you get the Android 7.1.1 update? Tell us in the comments below.

  • I hope Nokia 6 is priced below ₹16000. I will buy Nokia 6 over Nokia 5 at that price 😊

    • That’s €235, but it will probably go below €229 because that’s the average price, and India and China will probably be subsidised, local manufacturing, taxes etc.

      • The global variant will have only 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM which is less than Chinese variant so it should be priced less globally. 🙂 But if Nokia 6 is priced at EUR229 then Nokia 5 will have to be priced below EUR189 as people won’t opt of Nokia 5 then.

        • All three smartphones will have a little higher price in Europe and more developed lands, and a little lower price in countries with lower tax, and other such elements. That’s what makes it the average ;). I understand that they opted for more memory because of big competition in China. That’s why the Galaxy S8 is only available with 6GB RAM in China (and homeland S. Korea). I think I will buy the 5, because I want the flagship so 50€ in savings is a good start hehe

          • Yes, you are right about the pricing. They will be cheaper here compared to western markets. 🙂
If there is less difference between the pricing of Nokia 5 & Nokia 6 then I’ll go with Nokia 6. But i like Nokia 5’s design more than Nokia 6’s design 😛
BTW Nokia 3 is my favourite in terms of design 🙂

Will 5 be updated the same as 6 ?

    • The 5 will come with Android 7.1.1 preinstalled and should receive all the regular updates just like the 6. 🙂

I said months ago that one of the key features Nokia/HMD needed to have was a close to stock version of Android. So important for many reasons.

    1. From a security standpoint, just good business to get prompt updates.
    2. Media likes and appreciates stock Android. One of the things appreciated about Sony phones. Google Pixel already well received and well reviewed so would be difficult for media to review Nokia negatively.
    3. Consumers like prompt updates if comments in forums is any indication. Major update? There will be more and more people bragging about their problem free updates. Given similar features to, say, Samsung, we will hopefully see frustrated late-updaters making a move.

Well done Nokia/HMD, now lets hit it out of the park with a true flagship here in time for the holidays. Lets also see a wearables product that raises the bar.

It will be interesting to see how marketing progresses. As much as I hate Apple their last few commercials have been very watchable. The Windows/Lumia commercials, especially that stupid wedding commercial were embarrassing and akin to nails on a chalkboard. What will be the new Nokia “culture” they try to create?
